Sunrise of Philadelphia is an out-of-school time provider that supports youth who face adversity in discovering their strengths, experiencing success and preparing for their futures. Since 1999, Sunrise has provided high-quality youth development programs to more than 1,000 youth
annually, including academic enrichment, career and college programming and workforce development. Job Description

Sunrise Group Leaders are at the heart of our work with young people. Group Leaders work daily with youth, building relationships that endure and leading activities that open possibilities. A Sunrise Group Leader is responsible for supervising and providing programming to an assigned group of K-12th grade students. Group Leaders prepare and lead structured activities, play games with students, and make their time together fun, engaging, and enriching. In all activities, the Group Leader will use a trauma-informed approach to create a positive, fun atmosphere while maintaining health and safety guidelines in accordance with Philadelphia Health Department regulations, all grant requirements, and the strategic goals defined by the Sunrise administrative team.

Sunrise will offer families both before school and afterschool programs this year. Group Leaders may work in either or both programs. Program availability and exact hours will vary by site.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create a safe and fun atmosphere for your assigned group
  • Maintain proper supervision of your assigned group
  • Manage student engagement and behavior using a positive, trauma-informed approach
  • Lead and support structured, academic-oriented programming
  • Prep and lead enrichment programming, including planned lessons and informational fun activities
  • Lead regular outdoor play and activity sessions
  • Work collaboratively with instructors, School District staff, and contractors to achieve program goals
  • Monitor and support respectful daily space use, including appropriate care and storage of program supplies and School District property
  • Operate in accordance with Philadelphia Health Department COVID safety requirements
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts including data collection, reflective practice, and professional development
  • Organize and ensure all required paperwork (sign ins, PBL, etc.) is complete for program activities
  • Communicate with families as needed in a friendly, courteous manner
  • Collaborate with other staff for event planning, outreach efforts, and other services
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Required: at least a high school diploma or equivalent, and at least two years verified experience working with youth (1250 hours per year, total: 2,500 hours)
  • Required: proof of COVID vaccination (at least one dose; if second dose needed, must show proof of completion within 60 days of hire)
  • Positive communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Enthusiasm and dedication to improving the lives of youth and families
  • Ability to work productively as part of a team
  • Commitment to on-going growth and professional development
  • Friendly, courteous manner
  • Ability to navigate stairs and lift materials up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to speak multiple languages a plus

HOURS and COMPENSATION:

  • $15.00 per hour
  • Position offers 5-21 hours per week, depending on location and responsibilities
  • Daily schedule may vary depending on the schedule of the site to which you are assigned
  • This is a grant funded position that reports directly to the Site Director of your assigned location
