Job Description

Germantown Friends School is accepting applications for a full-time Athletic Trainer who will support all Upper School and Middle School athletic programs (more than 65 total teams).

Duties and Responsibilities

Promote safe and appropriate practices and competitions.

Work with fellow GFS Athletic Trainers in developing the Sports Medicine Program.

Develop and implement a comprehensive emergency action plan.

Develop injury and illness prevention strategies.

Provide for on-site recognition, evaluation and immediate treatment of illnesses and injuries.

Determine an individual’s readiness to participate in athletics.

Facilitate and perform rehabilitation and reconditioning.

Maintain accurate records of injuries and treatments using Electronic Medical Record.

Ensure that all 90+ coaches have required certifications (AED+CPR / Concussion / Cardiac and other paperwork completed).

Communication with coaches about all safety protocols.

Educate and communicate (with parents, faculty, staff, administrators, maintenance) about safety, lightning, severe weather protocols and any safety concerns.

Updates and communicates safety plans seasonally (indoor/outdoor, satellite facilities).

Checks that AED are visible and working (with nurses), communicate periodically with athletic staff about reminders for use and training for coaches.

Communicates with parents, school nurses, counselors, faculty, division heads, coaches and athletic staff about injuries and up-to-date information.

Manage athletic consent from parents.

Manage Healthy Roster system.

Implement student concussion prevention and response protocols.

Provide educational opportunities for parents, coaches, teachers and students.

Meet with the Friends Schools League (FSL) ATCs at scheduled meetings throughout the year.

FSL Athletics events that GFS hosts.

On-site point of contact at GFS Fields (or satellite facility) who handles immediate communications between Main Campus (Athletic Office, administrators, faculty, parents, etc.) and persons at Fields (coaches, athletes, officials, security).

Assist in officials pay sheet for certain games, when athletic staff cannot be present.

Create a database of team rosters and maintain it.

Create a list of substitute ATCs on stand-by and make arrangements for a sub anytime the main ATC is unavailable.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree required.

Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) required.

Candidates must be eligible for the state of Pennsylvania licensure.

Commitment to professional development in all aspects of DEIB and community building.

1-3 years athletic training experience in a diverse, high-volume, fast-paced environment: collegiate, high school or middle school is preferred.

Athletic Training experience with wrestling is required, wrestling body composition testing certification a plus.

CPR/AED instructor certification a plus.

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

May work in extreme weather conditions.

Work in a fast-paced and diverse environment dealing with a variety of challenges including medical emergencies.

Ability to work long hours (10+ hours and up to 6 days per week), including nights, school breaks, and weekends.
