Job Description

The job of College and Career Education Teacher & Counselor is responsible for assisting students in understanding their choices for post-secondary education and career training; providing information and/or direction to students, parents, teachers, and administrators about career and educational services available to eligible students; developing and monitoring of program data and reports; and working alongside the Director of College & Career Services in promoting programs with students, staff and parents that create awareness and support student aspirations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Works closely with students, teachers, and administration to carry out BCHS’s overall mission of ensuring every student graduates college and/or career ready.

Teacher Role:

  • Teaches and assists with the implementation of College and Career Readiness Standards and ACT 158 compliance.
  • Plan, develop and deliver College and Career readiness lesson plans for Seminar Classes.
  • Classroom Management including student behavior in Seminar classes; maintaining discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.


Counselor Role:

  • Assist in developing Individualized Career Plans (ICP) for students in collaboration with administration, advisors, students and parents.
  • Develop and provide information and materials related to career/college opportunities for high school students.
  • Directs communication via newsletters, information packets, phone and e-mails with students and families.
  • Guide students and families through all steps of the post-secondary application process, as applicable.
  • Guide students in course selection, credit recovery, and graduation progress.
  • Work with students and parents to ensure students are on track with Belmont’s Graduation Project requirements.
  • Assist students in working with the Naviance Career Planning web-based program.
  • Work with the Director of College & Career Services to coordinate a variety of events and programs (e.g. student assessments, career expeditions, classroom presentations, career events; college visits; field trips, student placement and follow-up, teacher and counselor PDs, etc.) to support the smooth transition from middle school to high school to post-secondary training and/or employment.
  • Serve as a resource for students, teachers, and advisors in the area of college and career readiness
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Experience working with high school students in a college/career counseling setting preferred
  • Develop and provide information and materials related to career/college opportunities for high school students.
  • Knowledge of post-secondary (college/trade) admission requirements, financial aid requirements, and training necessary for future careers.

Experience managing data, using data systems and reporting data preferred.

  •  Bachelor’s Degree required; 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with all stakeholders, both individually and as a group.
  • Ability to work effectively with all racial, ethnic linguistics and socio-economic groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills including collaborative problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
