Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with teaching team to facilitate learning, observe children’s play, and  develop emergent curriculum

• Foster problem solving, collaboration, and imagination by providing just enough scaffolding

• Develop strong, positive partnerships with families via documented learning, informal conversations, shared activities, and family-teacher conferences to support children’s growth

• Understand and support children’s social-emotional development and healthy risk-taking

• Maintain safe and organized classroom and outdoor space, using the learning environment as a teacher

• Facilitate mainly outdoor classes that nurture a child’s close relationship with the natural world through developmentally appropriate play, trail walks and games, stories, animal encounters, song, and art

• Conduct regular assessments to make children’s learning visible

• Adapt and be flexible to a new school in a startup environment

• Contribute to/participate in special Preschool events (open houses, seasonal celebrations, etc)

Qualifications

• Minimum education requirement is a high school diploma/GED or CDA, we have a need for teachers with a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Education or similar, and PA Instructional I certified. SUN will support continuing professional education and teachers seeking degrees!

• High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment

• Experience with diverse communities and interest in engaging in anti-bias/anti-racist work in inclusive practices/environments

• Strong work ethic and personal integrity displaying initiative and ownership– able to adapt to an emerging startup environment

• Dedication to self-reflection and a desire to continually improve your craft

• Familiarity with or interest in learning about Reggio Emilia philosophy, play and nature-based curriculum

• Interest in the natural sciences, local flora and fauna, and outdoor-based education

• Familiarity with email, Google Suite

• CPR, Mandated Reporter, and First Aid Certification and all required clearances within 90 days of hire

• Able to lift, move, and hold children and objects up to 50 pounds. Able to engage in full range of motion to lift, reach, squat, climb, sit, and otherwise fully participate in classroom and outdoor activities

Compensation:

• $15-21/hr or $30,000-41,000/yr, based on experience and certifications
