Job Description

The math specialist will lead all math intervention efforts within the high-school: managing tier 1 interventions (math research based teaching strategies, computer based program), designing and delivering research based tier 2 and 3 interventions, assessing and diagnosing student math needs, and monitoring student achievement. The math specialist will cultivate a growth mindset about math throughout the school as well as help make real-life connection with math.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • High level of organization to ensure all elements of the 9th grade intervention course are being executed with efficiency and fidelity 

    • Administer interventions within levelled, push in and pull-out groups, based on Exact Path scores 

    • Track success through Exact Path, and specialist anecdotal notes 

    • Adjust interventions frequently based on identified needs from student data

  • Ability to provides tier 2 and tier 3 support and intervention to students across grade levels

    • Provide diagnostic testing to determine relevant, research-based interventions to meet instructional needs.

    • Administer intervention in small group push in/pull out setting or through teaching a small elective course

    • Collaborate with classroom teachers of Tier 2 and Tier 3 students to ensure best practices for math instruction that meet the students’ identified needs, including necessary modifications and accommodations

      • Collaborate on development of necessary supplemental or modified HW and resources to reinforce intervention 

  • Collaborative work style paired with the ability to take initiative

    • In collaboration with the Director of Instruction, provide professional development sessions on effective instructional strategies and interventions

    • Collaborate with Director of Math on best practices for intervention

  • Ability to invest students and implement a student accountability system 

  • Strong classroom management with an ability to create a learning environment that is productive, warm, rigorous, and equitable 

  • Ability to “own” the math development of our scholars and support the classroom teacher in incorporating best intervention practices into their lessons/small groups

  • High aptitude with analyzing data in regards to student math levels; ability to create and follow-through with action plans

  • Create school-wide math initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Instruction

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher
  • At least 5 years of prior 7-12 teaching experience
  • Knowledge of math intervention techniques and literacy development
  • Strong analytical abilities and a love for data-driven instruction
  • Dedication to going above & beyond for your students
  • Collaborative work style paired with the ability to take initiative
  • High standards for both yourself and your students
  • Special Education certification preferred but not mandatory
