Job Description

The TIGER team’s mission is to support students in the Belmont Charter Network emotionally, behaviorally, and academically in an alternative program setting by increasing academic levels and empowering students to make positive choices in order to reintegrate into a general education environment.

The Tiger Program Teaching Assistant primary role is to actively support the classroom teacher and students  in accordance with program policies and procedures. The teaching assistant  will be supervised and be provided coaching  by the Tiger Program Director in collaboration with the classroom teacher. The TA is a key member of the program team providing input and feedback in the continued development of the program building trusting relationships with students and families. As a valued team member, the TA role requires commitment to the values and mission and staff  of the Tiger Program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Responsibilities: 

    • Provide input for IEP’s

    • Utilize kickboard

    • Attend team meetings in order to provide input to Tiger/Belmont staff regarding student concerns

    • Lead small group activities at the direction of the classroom teacher

    • Utilize referral systems within the program such as FSS referral 

    • Participate in staff and parent meetings when appropriate

    • Participate in o3 meetings with the classroom teacher

    • Participate in o3 meetings with Tiger Program Director for coaching feedback

    • Handle With Care Training 

    • Escort students to behavior room following teacher or self referrals

    • Assist and redirect  students while in the class during instruction to support their learning

    • Assist and redirect  students during independent work or small group time to complete tasks and reenforce classroom behavior management strategies as prescribed by the classroom teacher

    • The classroom teacher will provide the TA with a daily schedule to follow. 

    • Assist in progress monitoring and implementation of IEP goals

    • Classroom administrative duties would include:(but not limited to) attendance, behavior tracking, homework, recess and lunch supervision

Qualifications

      • QUALIFICATIONS:

        • Enjoys working with and for children
        • Strong classroom management skills
        • Team player
        • Flexible and dependable
        • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and a variety of individualized needs
        • Previous experience working with young children preferre
        • B.A./B.S. degree from accredited institution;
        • Experience in urban education;
        • Valid and active Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate;
        • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check Clearance (Act 34);
        • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151);
        • Federal Bureau of Investigation Record Check Clearance (Act 114);
        • Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Clearance (Act 168).
