Job Description

Currently, we are seeking an experienced instructor to teach high school technology classes for the 2022-2023 academic school year. Next year, we will be offering Digital Media Arts, Web Design through CodeHS, and Computer Science courses offered through our partnership with the Amazon Future Project Engineer program to engage and expose our students to the wide array of opportunities in the Technology fields.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The role of the High School Technology Teacher is to plan, organize and implement an appropriate technology program in a high school learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential, in accordance with the mission and standards of Belmont Charter Network. Work is performed under the supervision of the Head of School, Assistant Head of School-Instruction, and the Director of STEM Programming.

    Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

    • Plan, prepare, and deliver Technology lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning

    • Maintaining the machines, tools, and materials in the computer lab

    • Collaborate with leadership and teachers to create cross curricular connections to technology lessons

    • Develops lesson plans and assessments that are in accordance with established procedures

    • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.

    • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction

    • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures

    • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school

    • Provide appropriate feedback on  student work

    • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies

    • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development

    • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations

    • Prepare required reports on students and activities

    • Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings

    • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs

    • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

    • Prepare the classroom for class activities

    • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities

    • Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development

    • Assign and grade class work, homework, projects, tests and any other assignments

    Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following

    • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds

    • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails

    • Participate in appropriate professional activities

    • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed

    • Other duties as assigned


  • The ideal candidate will have:

    • The ability to communicate technical concepts to students in fun and engaging ways

    • Successful experience working with and engaging underserved populations in technology

    • Demonstrated ability to use data to drive instructional decisions and to show students are learning key concepts through assessments and student work

    • Familiarity and experience working with programming languages such as Python, Javascript and Web Design skills (HTML, CSS)

    • Familiarity and experience working  with Digital Media Arts programs for photo editing (Gimp, Pixlr, etc.), music production (SoundTrap, etc.), and video production (We Video, Da Vinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere, etc.)

    • Ability to connect Digital Citizenship and job readiness skills with existing curriculum

    • Experience using various educational technology platforms (Nearpod, Scratch, EarSketch, web based compilers, etc.)

    • Willingness to work on special projects under the direction of school leadership and the Director of STEM Programming related to technology education and/or STEM topics

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • PA High School Teacher Certification in Science, Technology, Mathematics, and/or Special Education

  • Have an add-on Grade 7-12 Teaching certification for Computer Science or are willing to pursue it upon being hired

  • Experience teaching variety of technology courses to high school students and familiarity with Edtech platforms

  • Experience and success with working with students from underserved communities

  • 1-2 years of classroom experience, preferably in urban education;

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check Clearance (Act 34)

  • Varied professional experience, both in classroom settings and outside of schools; demonstrated ability to manage groups of students and create positive classroom culture

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Genuine excitement for and ability to work with students, faculty, staff, and parents

  • Attending all school and network meetings

  • Being committed to student learning, personal growth, and professional development
